WHAT IS A “BLOG”?

BLOG (1)“Blog” is an abbreviated version of “weblog,” which is a term used to describe web sites that maintain an ongoing chronicle of information. A blog features diary-type commentary and links to articles on other Web sites, usually presented as a list of entries in reverse chronological order. Blogs range from the personal to the political, and can focus on one narrow subject or a whole range of subjects.

Many blogs focus on a particular topic, such as web design, home staging, sports, or mobile technology. Some are more eclectic, presenting links to all types of other sites. And others are more like personal journals, presenting the author’s daily life and thoughts.

Generally speaking (although there are exceptions), blogs tend to have a few things in common:

  • A main content area with articles listed chronologically, newest on top. Often, the articles are organized into categories.
  • An archive of older articles.
  • A way for people to leave comments about the articles.
  • A list of links to other related sites, sometimes called a “blogroll”.
  • One or more “feeds” like RSS, Atom or RDF files.

Some blogs may have additional features beyond these. Watch this short video for a simple explanation for what a blog is.

THE BLOG CONTENT

Blog word.Content is the raison d’être for any web site. Retail sites feature a catalog of products. University sites contain information about their campuses, curriculum, and faculty. News sites show the latest news stories. For a personal blog, you might have a bunch of observations, or reviews. Without some sort of updated content, there is little reason to visit a web site more than once.

On a blog, the content consists of articles (also sometimes called “posts” or “entries”) that the author(s) writes. Yes, some blogs have multiple authors, each writing his/her own articles. Typically, blog authors compose their articles in a web-based interface, built into the blogging system itself. Some blogging systems also support the ability to use stand-alone “weblog client” software, which allows authors to write articles offline and upload them at a later time.

75 Happiness Quotes to Live By

Here are 75 happiness quotes gathered from our sister site, Everyday Life Lessons, to brighten your day and move your mindset in a positive direction.

  1. Smile every chance you get.  Not because life has been easy, perfect, or exactly as you had anticipated, but because you choose to be happy and grateful for all the good things you do have and all the problems you know you don’t have.
  2. Never let a bad day make you feel like you have a bad life.
  3. Tell the negativity committee that meets inside your head to sit down and shut up.  (Read Learned Optimism.)
  4. A bad attitude is like a flat tire, you can’t get very far until you change it.
  5. In a world where you can be anything you want, BE YOURSELF.

  7. It’s important to make someone happy, and it’s important to start with yourself.

  47. In life, you usually get what you ask for and it rarely comes in the package you think it’s supposed to come in.

  60. Following all the rules leaves a completed checklist.  Following your heart achieves a completed you.  (Read The Happiness Project.)
  61. Knowing yourself is one thing, but truly believing and living as yourself is another.  With so much social conditioning in our society, we sometimes forget who we are.  Don’t lose yourself out there.
  62. Of all the things that can be stolen from you – your possessions, your youth, your health, your words, your rights – what no one can ever take from you is your freedom to choose what you will believe in, and who and what your heart will love.
  63. When you find yourself cocooned in isolation and despair and cannot find your way out of the darkness, remember that this is similar to the place where caterpillars go to grow their wings.
  64. Take all the time you need to heal emotionally.  Moving on doesn’t take a day; it takes lots of little steps to be able to break free of your broken self.
  65. When you can forgive, yourself and others, and stop the imprisonment, you’re creating the love of your life.
  66. What you believe has more power than what you dream or wish or hope for.  You become what you believe.
  67. Keep your heart open to dreams.  For as long as there’s a dream, there is hope, and as long as there is hope, there is joy in living.
  68. When you try to control everything, you enjoy nothing.  Sometimes you just need to relax, breathe, let go, and just live in the moment.
  69. Even though you cannot control everything that happens, you can control your attitude toward what happens.  And in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.
  70. Life will never be perfect, no matter how hard you try.  Even if you pour your heart and soul into it, you will never have that perfection you seek.  There will always be broken hearts, there will always be days where nothing goes right.  But you must accept and learn that even the most imperfect things will always be made better with love and laughter.  (ReadStumbling on Happiness.)
  71. Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.
  72. Satisfaction is not always the fulfillment of what you want; it is the realization of how blessed you are for what you have.
  73. Sometimes you just have to look back at your past and smile about how far you’ve come.
  74. Just because it didn’t last forever, doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth your while.
  75. It’s not that everything will be easy or exactly as you had expected, but you must just choose to be grateful for all that you have, and happy that you got a chance to live this life, no matter how it turns out.

  • A lot of people look for happiness in external sources, when true and sustainable happiness is found from within each of us.

I also agree that in order for you to make others happy and to have them follow you, you have to deal with and accept yourself first. We all have a ton of reasons to be happy, we just need to focus on them and choose happiness.

These are all fantastic tips, but the one that really stood out for me was:

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.”

  • Love these happiness quotes and lessons.

  • Again, the simplicity of your work makes me smile. Thank you both for making my days a little brighter with the things you share.

  • Marc and Angel, Happy 4th of July to you. Thanks for always sharing such inspiring words of wisdom with us. — What A Blessing You Are To Me.

  • I love that the past few posts have been about happiness. Thanks for helping me keep a smile on my face.

  • These quotes are exceptional, thanks for sharing them.

  • Reading each one of your articles makes me fell so wonderful. Thanks for inspiration and the motivation I get from the ideas you share.

    Fardeen Alemi ( Afghan )

  • Love these Happiness quotes and inspirations, made my day. Not to mention the happiness, the deeper smile I got after reading this. Thanks so much for sharing this :) Love you guys :)

  • Very nice as always. Lots of thanks for list of happiness quotes. :)

  • Happy 4th July to you guys!
Absolutely amazing happiness quotes and lessons, thank you :)

  • Great article as always! You guys always put together a wonderful read.

  • It’s all about the LAW OF ATTRACTION. It works. I experienced it. And mainstream approach for happiness will never work (’if that happens i will feel good’)…the reverse is true because feeling can be a guide and magnet for good events. The cycles of happiness and sadness, peace and suffering, love and lonliness, loss and embarrassment will come and go, true and permanent joy is found in being able to feel each moment and accepting yourself in it.

  • Love that you continue to spread the message of happiness, my friends. Happiness Rocks!! :)

  • Beautiful! These simple happiness quotes are relevant to everyone. I am actually a Christian, and a lot of these are principles Jesus taught too.

  • Happy INDEPENDENCE DAY to you and all your readers for helping us become independent of our social conditioning.

  • So wonderful and uplifting to read . I always try to see the rainbow in everything . Smile and the whole world smiles with you!

  • Yes, yes, yes… another great list. And this happy woman wished more people could feel as happy as I do.

  • Thanks for writing such a wonderful & interesting writeup. Some of the points jolted me and were very inspirational to read. If I can practice what you teach, it will result in a great self improvement in my outlook & my life.

  • Choosing happiness has been my philosophy for all my adult life. Seems people are afraid to be happy. Try it, its contagious!

  • #71 is my favorite.

  • I love all of these quotes. Thank you for this post! :)

  • Sometimes people are not afraid to be happy, they just feel that, for whatever the reason, they don’t deserve it.

  • YES! Happiness is NOT something you postpone for the future. Well put!

  • #27 absolutely…

  • I read this post, while listening to Cold Play- Paradise. I couldn’t do anything but cry. I thought about everything I’d been through. As a recent college grad I just think of the future that is ahead of me and where I have came from. You two are inspiring a lot of people in the world. Thank you for doing that!

  • Some great concepts here – I have shared this on Google Plus to bring the same joy to others!

  • Love this! Number 3, 11, and 14 are my favorite for now. I’ll keep it around for the next 20 tips. My diminutive mind can only absorb 20 at a time.

  • COMPLETELY AGREE! thank you Marc n Angel :D
The last one is exactly what my feeling is right now.
be grateful n u will know how lucky u are!

  • Great post! There are some you have that I must write and put on my board. Thanks

  • Well, I liked that quote, too: “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.”

There’s so much good stuff from Marc and Angel it’s like drinking out of a fire hose of happiness!

I like 61: “Knowing yourself is one thing, but truly believing and living as yourself is another. With so much social conditioning in our society, we sometimes forget who we are. Don’t lose yourself out there.”

Acceptance and then picking your goals and having the integrity to stick to them…that takes some practice. I just wrote about this on my blog, taking off the blinders requires learning how to ignore things.

    Great article,
    Thank you.

  • Morning!

  • I actually stumbled across your blog while looking for reasons not to “take the easy way out”, if you know what I mean. I’ll be coming back daily. You’ve literally saved my life. Thank you.

  • Great!!!

I was brought here by a very special person to me and it made me feel what is true happiness!

Thank you very much for these words!

  • Mahalo for ALL the GREAT quotes, I LOVE it =]

  • Thank you. That is all.

  • I love these happiness quotes. Empowering. Thank you.

  • I’ll add a quote: Happiness is a state of mind when everything goes to our expectations and wishs.
